The Lord Mayor’s strategy for a Digital Brisbane includes establishing an improved experience of the city through digital technology. The target for 2013-2018 is to provide world-class digital services that support residents, visitors and newcomers to Brisbane.
Council has selected CKAN under a support arrangement with Link Digital to enable their world-class open data initiatives into the future.
Brisbane City Council’s Open Data Project continues to build on Council’s commitment to transparency with the aim of providing even easier ways to find, access and reuse Council’s public datasets.
Residents, visitors and the developer community are able access the data that Council holds, and to use that data however they see fit – free of charge. Open data facilitates the development of apps, websites and tools that both benefit Brisbane residents and help Council work towards its vision of Brisbane as an accessible, connected city.
Brisbane City Council’s new world-class CKAN platform will be launched ahead of GovHack 2015, strongly supporting Brisbane’s involvement in GovHack while also demonstrating commitment to Council’s open data principles:
- Council recognises that all data is PUBLIC and made available for release, unless otherwise restricted under legislation, including the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld).
- Wherever possible, Council will provide information at no cost.
- Council will share information with other government or open data agencies unless otherwise restricted under legislation.
- Council commits to maintaining accurate and reliable data sets and repairing errors when identified.
