Animated: Self Portraits Online

From October 2007 to December 2008 the National Portrait Gallery (NPG) is presenting its first ever online exhibition ‘Animated’. Link has not only developed the exhibition site but has provided valuable input and support from inception through delivery of this impassioned and original project and has developed all related branding and promotional materials.

An animated portrait can be near motionless but always has the potential to be lively and noisy, to be undeniably contemporary and part of the connected age.

This exhibition demonstrates the changing nature of portraiture and how we express ourselves through new technologies and new mediums. And, with the April 2008 temporary closure of the NPG drawing near, it is also a well timed introduction to advancements in ‘exhibition’ itself. When the NPG closes its doors for nine months to relocate to a new purpose built gallery, the website, currently under construction by Link, will become the face of the collection, and online exhibiting a primary interface for the audience.
