As we celebrate Earth Day today it’s refreshing to see so many companies joining the commitment to zero carbon and more. With many now targeting 2030 it’s encouraging that the world’s leading brands such as Apple, Amazon, Nike, Virgin and others are making these commitments.

The route to delivering on these commitments is to publish regular and transparent data openly so that the companies can also be held to public scrutiny. Our experience working with governments has shown that publishing data openly promotes ‘good behaviour’ within the organisations themselves.

Along with recent SEC recommendations, we note that there is a growing impetus towards what is often described as the ‘Third Wave’ of open data. This approach follows a more purpose driven direction toward data sharing and is part of a growing call for greater transparency at corporate level.

Have a happy Earth Day
