Open Data Day 2023, an annual event that celebrates the benefits of open data and promotes its availability and use for solving real-world problems, this year is set to take place not just one day but during one week from Saturday, March 4th to Friday, March 10th, 2023.

Organised by the global open data community, supported and sponsored by the Open Knowledge Foundation (OKFN), Open Data Day is an opportunity for individuals, groups, and organisations to come together and showcase the power of open data through a range of activities such as hackathons, workshops, webinars, data expeditions, and more. In 2022, more than 150 events were organised and self-managed by the community.

The theme for this year’s Open Data Day is “Open Data to AI”, highlighting the potential of open data in driving the development of AI and the importance of ethical considerations in developing and deploying AI. With the growth of AI, open data is becoming increasingly important to enable the development of new AI applications that can drive positive change in the world. The 2023 events will try to answer key questions such as “How has AI been used or can be used to tackle world-pressing issues?” or “How can open data and AI illustrate the urgency in various subcategories like climate change, budget transparency, ownership, mapping, and many more.

Each year, small mini-grants are allocated to selected winners to support their organisation in hosting an Open Data event. Link Digital was honoured to sponsor this year’s Open Data Day(s) 2023 Small Grants Program and congratulate the winners!
