The CKAN platform has achieved a remarkable milestone, earning the status of a Digital Public Good. As announced on the Open Knowledge Foundation’s blog on June 15, 2023, CKAN has solidified its position as a crucial tool for sharing, accessing, and managing data in the digital age. This marks a significant step forward in the realm of open data and collaborative information sharing.

CKAN, a powerful open-source data management system, has long been recognised for its ability to facilitate the distribution of data across various sectors. Now, its official designation as a Digital Public Good cements recognises CKAN’s value not only as a technology but also as a driver of positive societal change.

As a Digital Public Good, CKAN now holds the potential to empower governments, organisations, and individuals with the tools they need to unlock the value of data. This milestone enhances the platform’s credibility and encourages further adoption, potentially leading to increased innovation and the development of data-driven solutions to pressing global challenges.

CKAN’s new status as a Digital Public Good is a testament to the platform’s relevance and impact in the world of open data. As we move forward into an era where data is a precious resource, CKAN stands as a beacon of accessibility, cooperation, and progress, reaffirming its role as a pivotal player in the digital age.
